Tropical Cyclones: Current  Characteristics and Potential Changes Under a Warmer Climate
What's New?

Project CRN2-050

The project CRN-II-050 led by Kam-biu Liu, explores the past record of tropical cyclones in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico by means of several proxies in the context of Paleotempestology.  Dr. Liu participated in the tree Spring Courses on Tropical Cyclones that took place in La Paz, BCS, in March 2008, in Acapulco, Guerrero in March, 2009, and La Paz, BCS, in March 2010.  He was able to survey a few sites in Baja California, guided by Luis Farfan, that would be suitable for the exploration that they carry out in their project.  Furthermore, Dr. Lui visited UNAM last August and interacted with Jorge Zavala, to discuss other potential sites in the Pacific coast. Dr. Liu has obtained an extension of his CRN-II project to carry out some research in the Pacific coast of Mexico. Graciela Raga has interacted with Myriam de la Parra, at Centro de Investigación y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS) in Mexico, who is carrying out anthropological research on landfalling cyclones in the more recent past, from colonial times to present.  Results from this research could be used by Dr. Liu to date some of his results.
